The upcoming Archos Android strategy is going to be so awesome!
Rumor and speculation: It is not exactly specified in the report, the quotes are not definitive, but it may be that Archos is definitely also working on building ARM Cortex based Netbooks runing Google Android as well in the Laptop form factor. Which should be able to give more flexibillity, using less power, thus running a longer time on similar size batteries and providing more optimized features for a Laptop form factor as well. Even reaching more competitive prices then the larger part of the competitors.
Expect more official informations about Archos Android products soon! March 31 to April 3rd, there is the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association) conference in Las Vegas, expect possibly some Android news coming from there.
If you understand french, check out this interview, it is really interesting.
Archos just entered the world of built-in HSDPA, which is a real revolution for Archos enabling full wireless broadband connection to your Archos including streaming of videos from the Internet from everywhere in the country. Where WiFi remains the best way to connect to the Internet while at home, at work, at school or when at open WiFi access points, but for everywhere else, HSDPA is now providing awesome built-in ubiquituous wireless broadband connectivity.
Archos products marketing manager Rémi Durand shows us how the new TV Portation plugin works. It enables you to stream live video from your TV, through an Archos TV+, 605 WiFi or 705 WiFi, through the Internet or on your local network, to another Archos 605 WiFi, 705 WiFi, or on any Windows Mobile smartphone (later there may also be support for Symbian) or on a laptop or PC. This is basically the Archos way to do the Slingbox, AMD Live or Sony TV Anywhere feature. You can thus take your Satellite, cable, DVB-T or any other TV channels that you own or have at your home, and then bring them with you all over the world. The TV Portation uploads the live TV feed at QVGA resolution starting at 300kbit/s, and it can go up to 1mbit/s for now if you have a fast upload connection at your home. The plugin is free with the TV+ but costs $40/€40 to install the server side of the software on an Archos 605 WiFi or 705 WiFi. The client side of the software to install on a 605 WiFi, 705 WiFi, TV+, on a Windows Mobile smartphone or on a Windows XP/Vista computer is free.

Interview with Rémi Durand, Archos products manager and marketing director at IFA 2007 on the 4th of September in Berlin Germany. This video explains a lot of things about the Gen5, the new business model of the Archos Content Portal, the flash support, widgets, HD, the battery dock and more. This was filmed as a part of a bunch of interviews that I filmed of all the best companies and products that I could find at IFA 2007 and I am posting all the videos at http://techvideoblog.com/ifa/?year=2007
Our focus for 2007 has been easy access to content and personalisation. However going down the line, WiMAX, 3G, VOIP.. the question is to pick the one that really matches the product. We are definately talking to partners about this for future applications.
About Echostar and the next PocketDish:
We’re actually working with Echostar right now to try to integrate the PocketDish into the new Gen5 line of products. As you know, anytime you try integrating digital services like we are, it just takes a little bit of work to make sure that it’s going the right way. So yeah, that partnership is active, and we are working on integrating the new products with the new Dish Network receivers and we hope to get it done here in the not too distant future so that we will have it available for this fall.
Presenting the 704 Wi-Fi and the 204 for the first time on the Internet in High Definition. As you can see in this video, the 704 Wi-Fi has an amazingly good 7 inch 800×480 resolution touch-screen, the 204 is the cheapest and smallest 20GB mp3 player on the market. No confirmation yet if there will be features added in firmware like webradio, IPTV, VOD, HSDPA drivers, USB-keyboard drivers.. No confirmation about those features becomming available with the 4th generation or if they might not come before the 5th generation.
