Archos 101 XS launched, check back for my video-review tomorrow

Posted by Charbax on August 22nd, 2012

Sure $299 with keyboard would have been nicest, but even at $399 it’s a no-brainer:

Archos 101 XS with keyboard: $399
Asus Transformer Pad TF300 with keyboard: $528 (+33%)
Acer Iconia Tab A700 with keyboard: $598 (+50%)
Asus Transformer Prime with keyboard: $648 (+63%)
iPad3 with keyboard: $598 (+50%)
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 with keyboard: $598 (+50%)
Microsoft Surface with keyboard: $599 (likely) (+50%)

Archos 101 XS is the thinnest, the lightest, has better performance than Tegra3, offers fastest GPU and memory bandwidth on the market (the 32nm Exynos4412 probably beats or equals though), offers features none of those more expensive devices have.

Check back for my initial extensive video-review of Archos 101 XS Gen10 tomorrow!! I expect to use this as my favorite 10″ device to replace all other 10″ tablets, Netbooks and Ultrabooks in the months to come.

    Here is the CNET review:

Do watch the video, it’s a little funny :-) . Personally, I was expecting better from Archos as the whole tablet game has changed to the budget tablet model, Acer, Asus and Google are now the competing at the same price point as Archos. All I can say is “Good Luck”.

You are missing some benchmarks…why did you keep only the ones with the best rank?

the tablet is being trashed by the press with poor screen quality and poor battery as well…

    so mixed feedback.

it has not the fastest GPU on the market. on GLbenchmark 2.5 iPad 2 and iPad 3 are doing much better.

  • Charbax

The GPU is faster than on iPad3. Some benchmarks just may not be tweaked right yet.

The benchmarks I show are the ones that matter. Most reviews think this tablet is fantastic and awesome. Reviewers who trash it are morons that have no idea about technology.

Archos plays budget tablets also, they have $49 to $99 Arnova 7″ tablets lined up, also 9.7″ IPS $199 dual-core Archos Elements lined up. This XS line is just the high-end for now, and I guess they can have a margin to sell it down to $299 if needed. This tablet certainly is budget when compared to Asus Transformer, iPad3, Microsoft Surface (likely $599) and any other “high-end” 10″ tablets with keyboard.

Charbax, is this tablet more stable than a previous g9, I mean no more slow-downs, no more freezing?
