Now it comes for 1 Swiss Franc for users who sign up for 2-year Fixed Telephone and ADSL line with http://sunrise.ch one of the top Swiss carriers, providers of ADSL and fixed telephony.
The subscription plan is 79 swiss francs (= 61€) per month for 15mbit/1mbit ADSL and Fixed line with unlimited calls to Fixed numbers included and also a SIM card for unlimited mobile calls using any mobile phone to other users on the same network. That contract would be for 2 years. Their argument is that ADSL cost and that fixed line costs about the same at competitors or provide actually less bandwidth at that price and here, they offer in the Archos for free.
Expect more and more carriers around the world will approach Archos to provide the Archos Tablets for free when consumers signup new contracts on mobile phone, ADSL or other services. Eventually this may also allow Archos to provide a version with built-in 3G so the carriers can even more easily provide data services directly in the tablet.
Archos 70 Internet Tablet is 1894 kroners (= 254€)
Samsung Galaxy Tab is 5979 kroners (= 802€)
They told me at the store, everyone who goes by wants to buy the Archos 70 Internet Tablet and not the Samsung Tab, and Dixons have a really hard time keeping enough stocks in the store, they are all getting sold out very quickly but they just got a new batch few days ago and have them in stock. This is so much of an impulse purchase at airports, I think airlines make deals with Archos and should sell the Archos in the airplane directly (tax free), pre-loaded with a bunch of movies and a movie subscription plan of some kind, 2 or 3 months would be included as trial, like some kind of international Netflix.
Rockchip RK29xx ARM Cortex-A8 based 10.1″ capacitive Android 2.3 Gingerbread tablet. It may cost something like $199 or $249 at retail, price is to be confirmed by Archos once this product is ready to be released. Release depends approximately on Rockchip being able to mass manufacture and deliver their new RK2918 ARM Cortex-A8 high performance yet affordable processor. Rockchip may not deliver RK29 before after March or so, see my other video specifically about Rockchip: http://armdevices.net/2011/01/07/rockchip-presents-rk2818-and-rk29xx-series-processors-at-ces-2011/
