Archos 101 Internet Tablet, 10.1″ capacitive Android 2.2 Froyo $299 Tablet

Posted by Charbax on September 2nd, 2010

Probably one of the most affordable 10.1″ capacitive Android 2.2 ARM Cortex A8 45nm tablets, with beautiful built-in HDMI output and full sized USB host, it’ll come starting at $299 for the 8GB model with MicroSD slot, it’s amazingly thin and light, 480gr that is 30% less heavy than the iPad and it’s got 12% more screen surface area than the iPad.

Now the big question I have is, Does this thing have multi touch?

Archos 101 will be the archenemy of the iPad. It is likely it will be difficult for the Archos 101 to win but I am a fan of Archos (I have a beautyful Archos 5) and I am really looking to have one of them (cheaper and probably as good as the iPad)

Is the 10.1 available for sale yet? I have looked several places and can not find it online

  • Travis

When is it going to be released or available for pre-order?

  • Jonathan

Will I be able to connect this to an ad-hoc network, like the one i run off my rooted droid eris? I havent gotten it to work on the A5 IT yet, using the Wireless Tether app.

  • Ryan

Will the Archos 101 come with GPS support? Since it connects to the android market, I would assume that means you can download google maps. It would be prudent to have this feature. Do you have any idea if it will be included?

If not, perhaps there will be an app for android phones that can share GPS with the Archos?

The 101 should come with GPS functionality it'd be perfect for it.

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

It'll be for sale after October 15th approximately.

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

Maybe, look for answers on Ad-hoc WiFi support in the http://forum.archosfans.com

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

Yes, maybe GPS info can be provided from external 3G device, either a Mifi or a Bluetooth or WiFi tethered phone. It is to be seen if that type of support for remote GPS will be there.

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

Maybe GPS can be added through the tethering device.

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

It will be released October 15th approximately.

  • Fahad

Android 3.0 will be released in October. will Archos 101 receive an update to this version?

  • http://twitter.com/grizzo94 Nicola Ramoso

No reply to mi question about gingerbread?

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

It might only be unveiled between October and December but source code might only be released next year. And nobody knows for sure what the hardware requirements are for Android 3.0 but my guess is that yes it can be supported.

So watched our video, good stuff, I have a question, when you were showing the task killer, I noticed there was only 94 MB left… What kind of RAM does this thing have?

  • http://twitter.com/grizzo94 Nicola Ramoso

Gingerbread request a 1Ghz processor to go fine.

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

Who says so? I think that number is just made up, I think Gingerbread will be faster than Froyo, thus it will work on even slower hardware just fine.

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

I think it has 256MB RAM, which I think is more than enough for Android 2.2 Froyo and eventual future versions of Android, as the newest Android manages RAM much better than previous versions. Basically, I don't think there are ever any situation in Android 2.2 where you need more than 256MB RAM.

Do you know, if it will be released on the same day in Europa as in US?

    Thanks :)

  • Mojaaa

I have HTC Desire with more than 500 MB RAM and its not enough. Navigation, skype, google maps, some basic apps that its not possible to move to sd card, for me 256MB is very low…

  • http://ARMdevices.net/ Charbax

Do you have the same problems after updating your HTC Desire to Android 2.2 Froyo version?

  • Raptor92

Do you know the date when Archos 101 will be aviable??? Thanks
