Archos 3 hands-on

CNET UK has been able to play a little with the Archos 3 at a recent Archos event in London: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/digitalmusic/0,39029432,49302856,00.htm

The Archos 3 is by far a much better value at less than half the price of the ipod touch and any other competing Mp3, Picture and Video playing device with about a 3″ touchscreen.

    I really like the idea of this a really nice looking piece of kit but why can’t they make an mp3 player this size with a 250gb HDD my old cowon was 30gb and even they had a 100gb version. I’ve got an archos 5 250gb but its far to big and cumbersome to fit in your pocket comfortably its like going back to the day of 4 aa battery walkmans…..More small mp3 players with big harddrives please….and please not you apple

    What they need to do is add the support for Micro SD cards I LOVE that sansas have that! because you can carry as many as you want and have unlimited space… and they said they already can make them up to 32Gb cards :D

    I would actually prefer full sized SDHC cards support. 32GB MicroSDHC is not really released yet, And MicroSDHC cards usually cost more than double the price of normal SDHC cards for the same capacity.

    I have one of these – it’s not bad, but it’s not so good either. Battery life is nowhere near the promised 14 hours, the touch screen is very sensitive (good) but impossible to calibrate correctly (bad), meaning you keep choosing the wrong option. The virtual scroll wheel used to move through long lists is almost impossible to use.

    Video support and audio quality are excellent, however.

    Got one at the weekend. Was very excited. However for some strange reason, its icon has stopped showing itself on my mac desktop – making it impossible to transfer files. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I’d appreciate it. In the meantime, I’ll keep playing around with it to see if something gives.
